Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Performs law enforcement duties to include but not limited to:  patrolling within the corporate city limits of the City of Eagle River:  handles complaints, criminal and traffic violations, and accidents; performs security checks of businesses, residences, and fire scenes; apprehends and arrests offenders; issues citations; conducts criminal investigations; conducts  interrogations and/or interviews of witnesses, victims, and suspects; performs searches; responds to and investigates alarms; completes reports such as incident, accident, and arrest reports; serves legal papers such as summons, warrants, subpoenas, and court orders; tags and labels physical evidence; appears in court when necessary; attends required training and department meetings.

     

 

 

 

  • Performs community service functions:  provides medical assistance to injured and ill persons; performs traffic control and animal control duties; advises and assists persons such as referring persons to agencies providing social services.

     

 

 

 

  • Performs other duties as required.

     

 

 

 

Essential Functions:

 

 

 

 

  • Possess the flexibility to assume and maintain a variety of positions and postures for potentially long periods of time.

     

  • Possess the range of motion, physical strength and endurance to respond to a physical attack, subdue a subject, pursue subjects on foot, drag an average size person to safety, push, pull or lift heavy objects.

     

  • Possess the ability and dexterity to fully operate and qualify with law enforcement tools such as department issued firearms, less lethal weapons and restraints.

     

  • Possess the ability to operate/utilize all department equipment and vehicles during normal operations and emergency situations.

     

  • Possess the ability to perform duties for extended periods of time while exposed to adverse conditions, to include time worked in excess of the normal daily duty shift and inclement weather (i.e. extreme heat/cold, rain, snow, etc.)

     

  • Possess vision correctable to no less than 20/40, the ability to distinguish basic colors, adequate depth perception to accurately determine distance from a stationary or moving object and adequate night vision and peripheral vision to safely operate motor vehicles or detect objects in low light situations

     

  • Possess the auditory ability to determine or estimate the point of origin of noise and hear normal conversation at a moderate distance.

     

  • Possess normal senses for touch and smell.

     

  • Possess the ability to speak, read and write the English language in a clear, understandable fashion.

     

  • Possess judgment and situational reasoning ability in order to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory and/or judgmental criteria.

     

  • Be able to physically negotiate various types of terrain and/or obstacles confronted in the course of both routine and emergency assignments.

     

  • Be able to react and move rapidly from a sedentary to active posture in response to environmental conditions or events that may require heavy or prolonged physical exertion.

     

  • Be able to make basic math calculations to include addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions, decimals and percentages.

     

  • Be able to use measuring devices to accurately determine distance using U.S. standard measurement.

     

 

 

 

Work Conditions:

 

 

 

 

  • Working conditions may include work under  unsafe, life threatening, dangerous and uncomfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as temperature variations, odors, toxic agents, violence, noise, wetness, machinery, traffic hazards, disease and/or dust can cause discomfort and where there is a risk of injury and death.

     

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

 

 

 

  • U.S. citizen.

     

  • At least 21 years of age.

     

  • Valid Driver License with good driving record and no Operating While Intoxicated or Prohibited Alcohol convictions.

     

  • No criminal convictions.

     

  • No domestic or harassment injunctions

     

  • Ability to possess a firearm

     

  • Possess an Associates Degree or higher.

     

  • Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification eligibility.

     

  • Must successfully complete a written exam, oral interviews; medical examination; vision examination; drug screening; psychological assessment.

     

  • Must have acceptable personal and professional history as determined by successfully completing a background investigation.
